Me: "So, what do you guys want to be when you grow up?"
Terzo: "I want to be a teacher!"
Me: "That's great! What kind of teacher?"
Terzo: "I want to teach little kids!"
Secondo: "And I want to be an airplane pilot!"
Me: "Wow! Is there anything else you might want to try? Like being a police officer or a firefighter?"
Secondo: "MOM. You're trying to get me to change my mind, aren't you?"
For the depressing background on why Secondo was right, visit my other blog, The Ex-Americans. The short answer to his question is yes.
wait, you have 4 kids AND two blogs?
ReplyDeleteI can only answer this in the negative because it's actually 5 kids. Ridiculous I know. In my own defense, the other blog hasn't been updated in months. I am trying to figure out how to just merge the 2, but their tones are so very different that it might be difficult.
DeleteMy husband told me that the most dangerous part of flying is take off and landing. My answer is, oh yay, only TWICE I have to worry about dying while flying, woohoo!!
ReplyDeleteLike any good aerophobe, I LOVE landing! It's really the takeoff that is terrifying, but that kind of sets the tone for the whole flight. I watched the last scene of "Say Anything" with my hands over my eyes, let's put it that way.
DeleteI can so hear the word MOM when you type it. MOM.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope they all fly off to the future! (just not today.)
Yep, not today! I am kind-of desperate to get us moved to a bigger town, because if we stay here they will have to go to public boarding school once they get to high school age. And that is WAY TOO SOON for them to move out! Even though there are days when I am ready to pack those bags now.
DeleteTwo kids 10 months apart! You've got me beat ... my last two are 17 months apart. They are never the same age, although sometimes it feels like it!!
ReplyDeleteIn my own defense, they were SUPPOSED to be 12 months apart, but Terzo was a preemie. And, because Primo and Secondo are six years apart, I *thought* it would be difficult to get pregnant after Secondo. Ha ha. But it is SO MUCH FUN having boys so close! They are best friends and worst enemies, and now that they're in the same grade, nobody really believes they are not "real" twins at this point.
DeleteA 17 month gap, though -- that is MUCH harder. The 2 girls are 18 months apart and it is kicking my behind. It'll be several years before they will really be playing together.
Why is it that kids can see you a mile away when you are trying to change their minds or convince them of something??
ReplyDeleteApparently they weren't born yesterday. : )
DeleteI'm here!
ReplyDeleteAnd I see that my friend, Alison, is also here. Actually, she's everywhere!
For some reason, blogs take several days to show up in my Reader. Give me time to return.
Your New Friend, m.
I love Alison's blog, too! Thanks for coming!
DeleteFlying is safe. But I used to date pilots and I don't want my son to be one. Or a bitchy flight attendant either. No fear so far, he wants to be a shark watcher...
ReplyDeleteHas he looked into the job prospects for a professional shark watcher?
DeleteWhy is it that these kids can read right through us? That has to be against the rules somehow!
ReplyDeleteI blame it on their smartness. : )
DeleteI guess, a fear of flying could make you want to change your child's mind.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, I actually wasn't trying to change his mind! I'm not sure where his little observation came from. It was only after I thought about it that I said (to myself) yep, it sure would be great if he ended up doing something else.
DeleteErin, if you're reading this, I ACCIDENTALLY deleted your comment. I am so sorry! Apparently it's not something one can undo. : (
ReplyDeleteLOL.... too funny.. OF Course you're trying to change their minds... they're your kids....
ReplyDeleteMine are 23,22 and 21 and I still try to change their minds :)
